Moira McCarthy is a well-known parent in the diabetes community. She is the national chairman of government advocacy of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and volunteers as a Bag of Hope delivery mom to newly diagnosed families. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Clara Barton Camp for Girls with Diabetes, one of the nation's oldest and best-known diabetes camps. An award-winning news reporter and magazine writer, Ms. McCarthy has appeared on CNN, many other national and local news programs, and twice on the front page of the New York Times. Her daughter Lauren has been a national spokesperson for diabetes. Ms. McCarthy lives in Plymouth, MA. Jake Kushner, M.D., was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Laboratory of Morris White, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the Joslin Diabetes Center, and Harvard Medical School. He has worked as an instructor in medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and as a faculty member in the Cell and Molecular Biology Graduate Group and Cell Biology and Physiology Program at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Dr. Kushner lives in Bala Cynwyd, PA.
